Rhino won't join surfaces — why?
Surfaces only join where their edges meet within the file's absolute tolerance (Document Properties → Units). Run ShowEdges → Naked edges to see the gap, close it with MatchSrf or by rebuilding the edge curves, then Join again. Set the tolerance your brief needs before you model, not after.
How do I find and fix naked edges in Rhino?
ShowEdges with Naked edges highlights every open edge. Tiny gaps can be closed with JoinEdge (sparingly); real gaps need the surface fixed — Untrim and re-trim, MatchSrf, or rebuild the patch with NetworkSrf or Patch. You're done when What reports a closed polysurface.
Why does BooleanUnion or BooleanDifference fail?
Booleans need closed polysurfaces and fail on faces or edges that exactly coincide. Check both objects are closed (What), push one slightly past the other so they overlap cleanly, and break complex booleans into smaller steps.
My Rhino loft is twisted
The curves' seams or directions don't line up. Run CrvSeam to put every seam in the same place and Dir to match their directions, then loft again — or pick each curve near the same end, and use Align curves in the Loft options.
FilletEdge fails in Rhino
The radius is usually bigger than a neighbouring face or a tight curve allows. Try a smaller radius, fillet in stages (largest edges first), and check for tiny sliver edges with ShowEdges. A different rail type (Rolling ball vs Distance between rails) often succeeds.
How do I make a 2D drawing from my 3D model?
Run Make2D from a named view (Top, Front, Right or a perspective) and keep the result on its own layers. For a scaled sheet, use a Layout with detail views and add dimensions in layout space.
My model is the wrong size or in the wrong units
Check Document Properties → Units against the brief. Change the units and choose to scale the model, or use Scale with a reference distance for imported geometry.
OffsetSrf or Shell fails
OffsetSrf fails when the distance is bigger than the surface's tightest curvature; reduce it, or simplify the fillets first. Shell needs a closed polysurface and a face to remove; for thin walls, OffsetSrf with Solid=Yes is often more reliable.
How do I export an STL for 3D printing from Rhino?
The object must be a closed polysurface. Export Selected as .stl and use the detailed mesh controls (a small maximum distance, edge to surface) so curves stay smooth. Check the mesh with Check or MeshRepair before printing.
Gumball is missing or I can't move things precisely
Turn Gumball on in the status bar. Click a Gumball arrow and type a value to move an exact distance, or use Move with Osnap and SmartTrack for point-to-point moves.
My Grasshopper result isn't in Rhino
Grasshopper shows a preview, not real geometry. Right-click the final component and choose Bake (pick the layer) to turn it into Rhino objects you can edit and export.
Rhino is slow on a big model
Work in Wireframe or Shaded rather than Rendered or Arctic, hide or lock layers you're not using, lower the render mesh quality (Document Properties → Mesh), and use Blocks for repeated parts.
Still stuck? Share your Rhino window and Cadet shows you where to click, on your own model.
