Your bracket sketch won't extrude. Here's your plan:

  1. Find the gap in the profile
  2. Close it with a coincident constraint
  3. Extrude the shaded region

The Fusion 360 problems students get stuck on — and the fix

Fusion 360 sketch won't extrude

Only closed profiles extrude — they show shaded. If yours isn't, there's a gap or an overlapping line: trim or extend the ends, add Coincident constraints, and delete duplicate lines. Show Profile in the Sketch Palette helps you see it.

Red and yellow timeline errors in Fusion 360

A feature lost what it referenced after you edited an earlier step. Right-click the coloured feature → Edit Feature and reselect the face or edge, or drag the timeline marker back to before the change.

Joints won't work — bodies vs components

Joints connect components, not bodies. Right-click the bodies → Create Components from Bodies, and activate the right component before you sketch inside it.

My joint moves the wrong way

Pick the joint origins carefully (snap to centres and corners), then use Flip or an offset. If the parts are already in place, use an As-built Joint instead.

How do I make my Fusion 360 design adjustable?

Modify → Change Parameters lets you name dimensions and add user parameters with expressions, so changing one value updates the whole design.

Combine or cut fails in Fusion 360

The bodies have to actually overlap. Check the target and tool bodies are the right way round, and tick Keep Tools if you still need the cutting body.

Shell fails in Fusion 360

The wall is thicker than the tightest curve allows. Reduce the thickness, shell before adding small fillets, or remove different faces.

How do I export STL or STEP from Fusion 360?

Right-click the body → Save As Mesh for STL or 3MF (raise the refinement for smooth curves). For STEP or F3D, use File → Export.

How do I make a drawing in Fusion 360?

File → New Drawing → From Design, place a base view and its projected views, then add dimensions and fill in the title block.

Fusion 360 says offline or my education licence expired

Fusion needs you to sign in online every couple of weeks, and the education licence has to be renewed each year through Autodesk Education. Work Offline mode covers short gaps.

Why are my sketch lines blue?

Blue means under-constrained. Add dimensions and constraints until the lines turn black, so the sketch can't move when you edit it.

How do I change something from earlier in the design?

Edit that feature in the timeline instead of deleting and redoing it — later features update. Keep Capture Design History on so the timeline exists.

What it costs vs a tutor

Cadet

£2.99

for a whole night before a hand-in — or 5 free sessions every week

Don't pay £500 for a CAD freelancer. Learn it in one night for £2.99.

A freelancer takes weeks, costs hundreds, and hands you a file you can't explain in a viva. Cadet sits with you in your own model and shows each step, so the work — and the understanding — is yours.

Cadet never does the work for you.

It shows the step; you make the click. That's why departments can recommend it.
